It's been years since I last went to yupangco and I must say they finally made important changes. The showroom's better. The fine collection of Fenders were great! Being a fan of the Fender brand, it was nice to be around so many models especially the signature series models. I didn't bother testing some coz I didn't want to waste the time and energy of the salespeople cuz I don't want to buy at this time. hehehe

I'm currently fixing the xmas gifts for people. kinda late but hey...

It's quite a sacrifice selling my Korg synth to finance a guitar purchase but it had to be made :( The synth could find a better home since I don't get to use it anymore. It's just sad I have to let it go since it's part of my collection. Maybe in a few years I'd make it up and get a better one to replace that.

My concern these days is how to get the gifts to my friends since I'll be leaving soon for davao for the holidays!!!

the weekend that was...

Friday...

Went with Bernice for her Highschool informal reunion dinner in Multinational. It was ok since I've known a lot of her batchmates from before so it was just like going out with my friends as well. Lotsa food... I couldn't stop myself actually and my tummy's a testament to that.

Oh yeah traffic was so bad that day esp in alabang

Saturday...

Drove off to Sta Rosa for Our drummer's daughter's 1st birthday party. We all know those parties are adult parties cuz the baby hardly knows what's happening. It was a great road trip going there and the food was great... kainan nanaman. My tummy's happy hehe It was also the first time I saw their new house so it was great to finally make the trip.

Since it was in Sta rosa, Bernice and Ola da manager decided to team up and sweet talk me into going to Tagaytay. I was in shorts and I didn't bring any jacket... did they care? NO!! I had no choice so I ended up going to Paseo de sta rosa to buy a jacket at one of the outlet stores there and was able to find a decent Nike jacket. We then proceeded to the trip listening to a Rex Navarette CD going up and went to this place, which I forgot the name hehe Bernice just wanted to go there. She bought 2 rings, we hung out and enjoyed the cold air, took pictures, and when the venue closed the lights on the viewing deck, we went straight to Breton to finish the evening with food again! hehe Left the place around 1am...

Sunday...

Steady as always. I woke earlier than usual since I was tired from driving the night before and I had time to swing by SM to see where I could use the Gift certificate I got but I didn't find anythin I liked haha Proceeded to church, dinner at CPK, then watched The Day The Earth Stood Still... nabitin ako sa movie na yun.

ayun. hahaha nothing to promote here just bloggin...

Been a while... gigs and new ads I've done

As I mentioned in the title, it's been a while. I haven't been able to update my blog and I sound like a broken record saying I feel bad about it. I always think about maintaining updates but I never get around to doing it...

Anyway, for all the cebuanos, I'll be there to do a show for SINULOG along with Neon8 and Couchlab so I hope to see you guys there. I'm hoping to finally revive my live set. Been very busy with work...

I recently just finished all (except for 1 cuz I had to go to baguio) the GMA christmas ads for the ff...

Aji
Fitrum
C2
Mr. Donut
KFC
Smart
Goldilocks
Solmux
UFC ketchup

I also did an Efficascent ad but I'm not sure if it's included in that.

It was quite a task finishing those that I had 2 17 hour days to do them. I was literally glued to my seat. I had other "easier" days. But it was worth it.

in other news, Lovecore recently played in Mall of Asia... Last wed to be exact. This was for the No Limits event of my church, New Life. Sitti played. Kitchie played. Jericho played... masaya... We didn't have Reg with us though coz he had work so it was quite a stretch for us to play as a trio. Hirap.

We had to leave right after the set though cuz we had to rush to the wolfgang album launch... WE DIDN'T MAKE IT!!!! Wasted money if you ask me... paid for ticket and gas and we ended up with nothing... Good thing they were selling the new batch of Razorback shirts so it was the highlight of the night.

Anyway, I'm off to makati.

Thanks for reading. God bless!

Shopping to Burn After Reading

spent the day with Bernice and decided to go to Festival Mall to have a change of atmosphere since we're mostly in Town Center. I had a feeling it would be quite "scary" today in the sense that we'd both end up shopping and we did hehehe She ended up buying a pair of boots at Nine West and I just bought some shirts in Giordano and one at a sale in Armani Exchange. Our last stop was in Puma where I was checking out this pair of shoes and I couldn't try it out cuz I didn't have any socks on. I didn't want to try anything without socks (I think everybody shouldn't hehe) So I rushed to Robinsons to buy socks and headed back to Puma to try em on. Unfortunately, they only had only one pair for my size which had poor quality control (for that size only. I'm not dissing puma cuz I love the brand). I didn't want to settle. Good thing I was eyeing this black jacket (cuz I needed one) so I decided to spend my money where it's worth it.

Berns wanted to watch a movie at Town Center so we drove there and saw Burn After Reading. I was quite hesitant at first coz a friend of mine said it sucked. I LOVED IT! hehehe

Anyway, it was my rest day cuz my weekend was more like a "weakend'  since we had out Lovecore photoshoot then I had to drive to Los banos for a function, head back to Manila at 7am then go to church in the evening and head to a stag party of a friend which I organized with friends. It was great to finally spend the day with Berns and just be "lazy" and just enjoy the day.

Today, I guess I'll be  back working on the album again. I'm now waiting for some windows updates to finish coz my computer's actin up so I'm doing updates hoping to fix it.

So there...

Don't forget the gig on the 29th in Festival Mall Alabang!

Help my band, Lovecore

We're about to launch our single on the airwaves and we're asking help from anyone who may know anyone in radio stations if you can help us out. We're doing this the indie way so we're just relying on the help of friends because we don't want to pay anyone (payola) just to get airplay. We want the music to speak for itself.

We're targeting all stations even provincial stations because we want our music to reach all corners of the country.

Aside from the single, we're also looking for potential sponsors for the album and for the band like clothing, accessory or shoe sponsors as we launch the single so we can all benefit mutually in the promotions.

We're also planning on doing the video for our single so if you're an indie filmmaker or you know anyone who wants to assist with this, it'll be greatly appreciated.

We're finally doing this so we're stretching it and calling out for assistance in any way from all our friends and contacts. Ika nga, wala nang hiya hiya...

Let me know by replying or texting me at 09175004517

This is the season God has prepared for us. It took time for us to get here but we're grateful at the chance to be doing this and to be a blessing in the process.

Thanks in advance for any help big or small. God bless.

tele blah

I just paid my reservation for my very first Fender Telecaster. I'm really excited because lately I've been looking at getting a Telecaster... specifically a 62 reissue since I like how it looks (yes I know we should choose the best sounding). I just love the sunburst especially the double binding. After inspecting the guitar and handing my downpayment, the excitement at getting it finally hit me. Now all I have to do is wait for a payment to come in so I can finally get the guitar.

God's just great at how he opens a window when a door closes. I was supposed to get a japanese Telecaster from someone but the seller was so hard to deal with and when signs showed about his character, I didn't have the peace to pursue the purchase so I stopped looking for a Tele. Just this week, I chanced upon an ad of the EXACT model I've always wanted and not just something I wanted to settle with like the Jap Tele. I finally get the one I like with much better value and quality.

Since I already have a couple of guitars in my collection. My girlfriend's new rule for me is to sell something I don't use or something I'm willing to part with before I buy another guitar, that's why I recently put some of my most prized synthesizers on the market to pay for the guitar. It's just a blessing I was able to find a seller VERY quickly and to be able to have the guitar reserved to me since there were so many inquiries about the tele I'm buying and some even wanted to buy it already. The seller's just plain great that he's a man of his word and stood by his since he already confirmed sale to me so it's really a "treat" more like my Christmas gift for myself haha

Anyway, I just needed to let out some of the excitement hehe

God bless

REFRACTION and then some...

See ya guys on Oct 31. That's tom near Ruins BF in D House for REFRACTION. I'll be playing along DJ Benjo Marquez and DJ Borja. My band's also playing. Yes I know it's kinda overexposed but it's all for good fun anyway so check it out... DJ's, Live electronica, Bands. Parteh! hehe

Currently listening to Michael Jackson while typing this...

Anyway, I again, failed to continue the whole blogging thing and I really hope I could at least keep this going good. At least something right?

Right now I want to find time to finish my set for tom but work again will take up my time the whole day so I dunno what I can finish. Oh well. That's life. I'm pretty excited about the new silverfilter album. I finally have the final list of songs so t's just a matter of finishing them and polishing them up. I can't wait!!! It's gonna be out this December so watch out for it.

My band, Lovecore, finally got ourselves a manager and a proper roadie so we're now one step closer to our, um, dream? hehehe Getting there. I'm confident about our manager and the move God made for this to happen and I'm pretty sure it's all gonna be rolling from now on for the band. I'm equally excited for this as well.

I'm still continuing my quest for slimming down so lately I've been eating (a little) healthy. It's a start. We have to start somewhere hehehe skipped gym the past week though so I'm hoping to get back on it soon once refraction finishes.

Oh yeah, the Electronica Manila CD is finally moving as well so expect that as well.

I'll keep this short so I won't run out of things to write haha

God bless everyone.

A Nice Feeling...

I decided to post anything related to silverfilter in the yahoogroups as well but for the daily blogging, it's only gonna be in my multiply, facebook, and blogger site.

Anyway, I performed last Saturday at Hyatt for the Rogue Magazine/URCC event Black Tie Brawl. I performed with none other than one of our guitar legends, Jun Lopito, and Radha.

Jun's been a friend for quite a while now since we've done tons of shows together and we're pretty close since we bunked together during one of our long out of town shows before to the point na naaasar ko sya hehehe He's a really fun guy and AWESOME guitar player. I can just wish to be as good as him. Very easy to be with. Quite a laugher and it's a good thing. Masaya kasama.

Now what was nice for me last saturday is actually workin and playing along with Radha singing. It was quite an honor. I used to remember just listening to Kulay back in college and even fronting for them before and now here she was singing on top of my tunes. It was an experience. We were even placed together in one table so medyo kulitan lang the whole night. She's fun to be with. Very down to earth. I even switched to fan mode from time to time asking interview-type questions regarding her days with Kulay. It was funny. I got some pics but I'll upload it next time. For now, that's it. Workin on some new stuff so hang in there.

Hope everyone's doing great!

God bless

Scripture For The Day

"Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong."  Exodus 23:2 NIV

We sometimes find ourselves being led by the crowd in our decisions from the smallest thing to the bigger things in life. Use your better judgment and the Wisdom you have in the Spirit to discern what's right from what's wrong, even if everyone's doing it. It's not always the right way if the majority of the people are into it. We sometimes have to go "against the flow" as we always say, and be a shining light in the darkness of some crowds we find ourselves in. Be Jesus to them and create your own crowd. You may start alone but in time, you will draw them to what you have inside of you and you can be stronger with a harvest.

Just sharing my excitement for one of my works...

It's 4am surfin the net and I have the TV in the background on Bio Channel (Flip This House)...

suddenly, a familiar intro played on the show. It was all to familiar to me but I just laughed it off initially and pretended it was one of my old tracks. Lo and behold, when the main part came in, it was indeed one of my old tracks!!!!!! It's one of my works which I sold overseas and here I was hearing it for the first time ACTUALLY BEING USED. Ang saya lang isipin... Praise God for the small things He surprises me with...

Thoughts on a tues night...

I really wanna keep up with this blogging thing cuz I noticed it somehow helps me as well. I've got tons of ideas all throughout the day then lose them once I'm in front of the computer or sometimes, the fire to write em down has died down.

Anyway, been haulin ass to the gym for the past 3 weeks and praise God I'm able to. I'm tryin to lose weight and not bulk up at all. I even told the gym that I don't want that. I just want to lose weight. I'm in that slightly insecure stage in my life where I'm not that pleased with my body. It's come to that point that I couldn't even wear some of the shirts I had from before cuz my tummy won't let me. I guess age is catchin up on me... and that is another thing that's been bothering me lately.

I feel like I'm getting too old and running out of time to do the things that I want to do. I know that's a silly thought but that's how I've been feeling the past months. I dunno why. It's like I have to rush everything so I can do it while I'm young and since there isn't progress yet, I get somehow frustrated. I know it's just me. It's just hard.

I recently put in my facebook status, silverfilter is at the crossroads coz I am.

Whattawednesday!

Woke up on the wrong side of the bed cuz I couldn't get any decent sleep the night before and I dunno why. My guess is because of the stress I was to face Wednesday...

Had to rush to church coz I was to play guitar for worship. Was aiming to leave by 9pm  since it normally ends around that time but since the Word was great, it had to extend til 9:30... had to rush coz I was needed at Manong's filinvest alabang by 9:30!

Arrived at Manong's and setup so quick so I could start asap since I was hoping to start by 9:30. I was able to start at 10... Did an hour's worth of chillout stuff/little live. After my set, I was hoping to eat but it took a while before food got to the table to we were able to leave 11:30...

Picked up bandmates in Mcdo alabang around 11:35 or something, then rushed to Petron for Gas and tire checkup... was able to leave alabang around 11:50...

While everything was goin on, I was a bit stressed cuz it didn't go as planned and I wanted to leave Alabang by 11 the latest cuz we had a gig in...

KATIPUNAN!

yes, so we rushed to katipunan coz we had a set by midnight and it was such a blessing we made it on time. Katipunan ain't that far at that time.. it was roughly 11:50-12:15am

So there. after that, we hung out a little to eat and drink our band iced teas and left. Took berns home and dropped off my bandmates in Mcdo alabang... home sweet home.

I know it wasn't that much for some but the very tight schedule and a literal overlap made it so stressful. I was so glad to unwind when we got to Rout 196 in Katipunan.

We did a "No Effects" night and literally changed most of the arrangements for Lovecore songs. we had a blast. we enjoyed the clean tone and the chance to experiment. Even my girlfriend prefers us to sound that way instead of our typical rock sound haha

Anyway, that's it. Tonight I'm off to pasig for the electronica Manila session at 6underground

God bless

ok so I lost my rhythm...

I said to myself I can do this blogging thing and I used to love emailing everything straight from my phone so it'll be up to date. When my phone bill came, I kinda had to take a second look at using it to update my blog. I kinda lost it after that. So here I am typing away on my computer keyboard.

I won't bore you with the past updates but just list down some stuff...

I bought my first tube guitar amp yesterday! I was so excited about it. I dunno why. I kinda felt (and knew) it would spark something and would inspire me to practice my guitar licks more. I actually ordered some new blues books (again) so I can improve my understanding of the blues. I can't shred so I'd prefer feel hehe

I'm currently doing the chillout nights in Manong's in Filinvest alabang every wed 9:30 onwards so feel free to drop by. I'll be here til December!

I'm also finishing my annual BIG project which will hopefully pan out by the end of the week and I can finally buy that Fender Telecaster I've been eying for the longest time haha

Still finishing albums (as usual) but expect a release this December.

So far, that's it for now.

God bless

Southern Style

I recently posted about avoiding blogs in the silverfilter mailing list and i'd just like to clarify early on that any important update or news about my silverfilter project will continue and i'll simply avoid a daily thing which sometimes doesn't have any connection to silverfilter...

Anyway, i'm in Davao now and the other day, i did a short interview for a sky cable show entitled, Southern Style. I simple gave some digital djing overview, some basics and how to's for aspiring dj's out there. It was a fun experience as we did it in my lola's house so my relatives watched the whole shoot and interview. It was great to have the family there backing me up especially up to my grandmother, aunt, and uncles. It was a trippy experience. Good thing i brought my laptop and controller for a supposed gig over here, which didn't push thru but God found a way to make it worth the hassle in carryin it from mla to dvo and back. Unfortunately, it might be just shown locally in davao. But if you are in the area and you get the same cable channel, tune in to channel 13, sept 23 for a trippy tutorial and more.

God bless (",)

Electronica Manila Sessions is Tonight!!!

I hope to see you guys tonight at 6 underground. show starts at 10pm.

I just finished my software liveset setup and it took me 3 whole days figuring it out and creating the set. I tell you, midi mapping causes real nosebleed hehehe I'm just excited I finally got everything together and I did a short run through practice already for tonight. After tonight's show, I'll be back on the drawing board a bit to add on to my existing setup but tonight's setup is enough for the task. Besides, I never would step up on stage if I didn't feel like it was THE setup for now. that's why it took me 3 days... yes I am quite the perfectionist hehe

Anyway, it's gonna be a great time tonight with other Electronica Manila artists, Mighty Dax, Names are for Tombstones, and Neon8. PLUS of course, the debut of my new live set up which is software based, centered on Ableton Live 7 and my Remote SL. Nilagyan ko pa nga ng sticker ng Ableton yung SL eh! hehehe

Takits!

God bless

Gigs and then Some

Come and check out my new liveset this friday for the Electronica Manila sessions v8.08 with Neon8, Mighty Dax, and NAFT. @ 6 underground.

For the South peeps, i'll be doin a set in molokai on Saturday so take note of the gigs... Sept 5 and 6 (",)

Speaking of liveset. Coming from a hardware live setup, i'm pretty excited for my software-controller setup which i've been cookin up for the past month. I recently bought a Novation remote sl 25, which acts as my main controller now for my live sets. I chose it because it has the most controls out there so i had to look for one in our shores. I also upgraded my Ableton Live software to version 7 and i'm very happy that i finally have my ableton-remote duo. My controller's setup pretty tight and quite complex which i'll be willing to share how i did it. I'm actually still ironing out some controls but i've mapped out everything already and i'm ready to go after a few practice runs.

See you guys on friday! This'll be fun

Thanks again for believing in me. Thanks for understanding. God bless.

TV Shows

I remember a few yrs back, i was hooked on starworld shows... I literally followed and knew what shows were on at certain times all throughout the week. These days i hardly even find time to follow any series. My tastes have changed as well and lately i've been hooked on educational channels like Discovery, NatGeo, history channel, bio channel, etc. I think i've written something about this in a recent blog. Anyway, if there's anyone who reads my blog, i hope they can find it entertaining and educational so i'll be sharing some tidbits along the way from stuff i watch.

I saw a special on Valley of The Kings in Egypt which talked about the underground tombs of the pharoahs. Pretty spectacular. After they did the pyramids, they went underground. It's where king tut was discovered. Did you know that king ramses II had 50 sons! That's why the biggest tomb discovered was that for his family. As big as 4 football fields with almost 200 rooms/chambers. All of it were underground. There's more but i'd let you watch it. I'm sure it's gonna be shown again.

Anyway, this is one of the busiest weeks of this yr for me and with too much work, i felt that i was beginning to get burned out last night. After finishing a project, i was planning on moving on to the next but somehow, hours passed and i couldn't come up with anything that i simply turned off my computer and knew i had to rest so i turned to my dvd player to get my mind off of work. Don't forget to unwind. I always do and that's what's wrong with me.

That's all for now. God bless and enjoy your friday.

Electronica Related Stuff I'd Buy If I Had Extra... Pioneer EFX1000, Korg Zero8, Genelec studio monitors (5 for surround mixing!), a new DAW desk, 1 terrabyte HD, Macbook Pro w Logic Studio, Elektron Machinedrum, Yamaha Tenori On. Jazzmutant lemur/dexter. I guess that's it... But as mentioned, if i had extra. In fact, i'd get these if my extra had extra hehe right now i'm pretty happy with my setup and it'll take a while before i do any major upgrade after getting a new soundcard and controller. It's just nice to dream...

Aside from my Akai controller and NI soundcard, I'm so happy to welcome in my stable my new Novation Remote SL25!!! Yahooo!

As I mentioned in past blogs, I'm preparing to take on the live route once again and getting a new controller dedicated for gigs is one step closer to that as I prepare for it. I am aware that I have a bunch of controllers lying around but the fact that I'm living different lives requires me to use certain tools for specific jobs... My studio mainstay right now of course is the MPK49, which has 49 keys and is the biggest of the lot. My Novation X Station is reserved for "work" when I need to go out and do projects for different studios since having it as an audio/midi interface makes it easier to travel. Finally, the Remote SL is gonna be my workhorse for live gigs that are ableton based, or for DJ sets. It's quite a sacrifice but as always, it all pays off in the end.

special thanks to arvin for selling the SL to me hehehe

Ok so I finally got my go signal for a new album

I'm currently working on a few tracks, which I offered to donate to use for fund raising and I finally got the go signal from the beneficiary as I also needed their assistance in making the whole album possible. It's funny that it got approved and they want to release it by next month and I told them I can't finish everything in less than a few weeks since they want it exactly in a month's time and we have to consider like 2 weeks for CD pressing so that leaves me with 2 weeks to do an album. I don't think I can commit to that especially with the load I'm carrying at the moment. But it's pushing through and I'm just glad I could just give back to God what He has blessed with so richly. Besides, I'm here to spread the Good news and be a testimony of God's greatness and goodness in my life and doing this album is exactly what He made me for.

Things I have to finish...

mixdown of my band's single
2 more song arrangements for an artist
6 new songs for a foreign client due VERY early sept
and a whole lot more... (studio renovation plans etc)

It's quite overwhelming and at some point I even thought of putting on hold either my silverfilter project or my band just to get things going since I feel I'm spreading myself too thin.... but that's another story.

Anyway, I'm excited about the new side-album and funnily, I guess it'll come out before the album I'm actually finishing. But it's all good. A silverfilter album is still a silverfilter album fund raising or not hehehe

I'll keep you guys updated about it. I'm halfway with the tracks!

God bless

Design Woes

If i had hair, i'd be pulling it by now...

Since i planned the whole studio renovation, i've been toiling day and night goin over sites and different designs online to get ideas on how to go about with mine. It's hard. Til now, i haven't come up with anything. It's difficult i tell you. If money wasn't an issue, i'd be done by now. But i have to consider everything. I'm particularly having trouble looking for places for my equipment, my DAW, the synths, How to place the recording booth, where to move my room, where to setup the band equipment, etc etc... I'm drawin a blank and i dunno what to do...

Where Would I Be Today Without FruityLoops?

A decade ago, i came across a music software called Fruityloops. It was still in version 1 back then and was very basic but it was my first foray into electronic music production. Having grown from a band setting, electronic music was new to me, much more creating and producing it. Somehow, it felt empowering to create something from scratch, all the parts, on your own. This piqued my interest in delving deeper into learning it and writing more tunes. The beauty of FL, as it is known today, is its simplicity made it easy for someone like me to be makin tunes in no time. It was so easy to learn. Even if you see the latest version which has more mind boggling features, the basic process in makin music with it still makes it easy to whip up something quickly. I made tons of tracks with it over the years. When Reason came out, it took a while before i switched because i really loved FL. the bugs from the software got to me so i decided to go with Reason. But
this post is about FL and i have it to thank for my career not just as silverfilter but as a music producer/arranger and everything related to it because it got me where i am today. If not for FL, i wouldn't have bothered taking this route in music. I possibly might be stuck with just my band thing and i might be working in an ad agency by now or somewhere where i could do some creative writing. Coming across this software by accident changed my life and the chain reaction from it is something else. It's quite fascinating how some things can change your life. As simple as it is being some basic music software, it took me to a different course in life and altered my entire future and here i am today.
