A Nice Music Technology Blog/Site

For our link for the day, head on over to http://createdigitalmusic.com/

I like this particular site so much I even have it on my tab shortcuts on my browser.

With the sites I frequent and stuff I read, I can say that I try to keep updated as much as I can and this site is one of those that keep me updated with what's happening in the world of music technology. Sometimes, updates can happen the same time I read up on it on some other site but it's always nice to get another perspective on things coming out. The site also has a lot of followers thus creating a nice little community so when you check out one of his posts, read up on the comments section coz you'll pick up a thing or two from other peoples inputs as well.

Enjoy!

God bless

The Time Has Come...

If you're reading this, I'd say if not lucky, you're pretty fortunate because I will pour out a bit of my heart in this entry. You won't win a prize and it may turn out not to be a big deal for you but it is for me and that is why I am sharing it with you.

I am finally finished with my latest album. This particular album has been, believe it or not, almost a decade in the making... ok around 6-7 years. Manila Electronica, my latest, is finally seeing the light of day in a few weeks. This album is a collection of all the styles I enjoyed making over the years. In a funny way, it may sound like the "best of" but this album isn't a collection of my so-called best... especially since I don't have a ton of releases to start with. But this one is a personal selection of tracks I've done, which represents the different sounds and stages I've been in ever since I took on a more serious path doing electronic music. It's a mix of a lot of styles/genres and I tried to have each represented but I can't cram everything on one CD so I made it a point to at least include those which I haven't included in any release I've made may it be free or not.

Unfortunately, this album is the last for a few years that'll contain a mix of different styles. The upcoming releases are more genre-based like Devotion, which just covered a particular style, so this is why this particular release is close to my heart. It is essentially the evolution of me as silverfilter.

The styles covered here are trance, DnB, house (various styles like deep, funky, etc), techno, breaks, and a lot more.

This will be released in CD format and a digital version is to follow soon. An album tour is in the process of planning and it's not rest time for me as I have to prepare big time for the tour of the album making remixes of the songs to make it ready for a live setting. A lot of work but my simple reward is the fact that after all the years I've perfected the songs in the album, I can finally release it to the world. The delay has been bad for me and this is why I'm SO happy that it is coming out.

Expect it this July... coincidentally, Devotion also got finished and delivered in July I believe a year ago.

Next album would be a surprise. It won't take long.

Thanks again for all the support. I know you guys are few (for now) but I'm hoping to share my music to more people and to have more Pinoys get into the local dance electronic artists.

May God bless you all. I am humbled by your belief in what I do.

One Last Thing... Polish then I'm off

I'm soooo happy to announce that my album's finally done. Knowing my perfectionist self (another reason why albums have been delayed), I'll go over the track sequence a few more times to make sure. I MIGHT also just fix some levels a bit and I'm off to burn the main master disc and I'm off to the replication company.

This is it guys!!!!

Manila Electronica will be out this July if everything goes as scheduled! :)

Will post sample (teasers) in a week or two.

Thanks for the support!

God bless

Almost There

I know I haven't uploaded this weeks tutorial and I apologize. It'll definitely be on it's way in a day or two. I have just been busy wrapping up my new album that I had to focus on it completely. I'm happy to say that it's just about done. I'm just doing some final listening sessions on the master files before sending them out for replication. After that, it's simply a 2 week wait then it's on!! Very excited! Cy

Are You a Chemical Brothers Fan?

Their album, Further, is out now! It's awesome...

I'm pretty happy to hear that they've left the guest vocalists route and rocked the album with their synths and psychedelic soundscapes.

And for the real fans, it was a treat reading this...

Enjoy!

More Content...

My life isn't "glam." I often find myself enjoying a quite Saturday night at the mall watching a movie. If gigs do come, I welcome those with a smile as well. So I was thinking, my daily updates about life may not interest some people so I'm simply just going to be adding some more music-related stuff. Links to interesting things I see online or nice finds. To make it personal, of course I'll make it a point to say something about it and how i like it or how it relates to me as a musician, etc. I hope this can also help you guys out and everyone following my blog or reading it.

First off...

http://www.datatransmission.co.uk - This is a nice site for electronic music related stuff. I subscribed to their weekly emails, which at times can be overwhelming, that I tend to just drag it to a folder to read in the future. But I recently found a nice rhythm to reading the emails and so I'm enjoying it nicely.

A nice thing about the site is the podcast section where you can download full podcasts from famous acts such as Sasha, Timo Maas, Plump DJs, and more. It's also nice since I'm discovering a lot of new artists/acts in the podcast. I don't get to study them in detail but I simply enjoy listening to the tunes.

The site has a lot actually like upcoming shows/events, which are irrelevant for someone in the Philippines since we can't enjoy them but the rest of the site is great for other things like free track giveways from time to time and a lot more.

Give it a visit and let me know how you enjoy it!

Downloading a podcast as I type this as well :)

God bless

Not quite but yeah...

Today wasn't as productive as I had hoped but I had lesser pressure today I don't know why.

Accomplished some little things, which hopefully will create a bigger result in a few weeks time.

Sent an email to a client for a possible major gig. Really looking forward to this.

Did some minor edits to my artist profile which I send out to clients.

Edited the album cover of my upcoming release, Manila Electronica. Added the name of the other album sponsor hehe Did some little text changes as well.

Watched some youtube tutorials to get more ideas on how other people setup their APC40 with Ableton. It's nice to look into how other people do it and their ideas on how to set their live set up.

Updated my Ipod touch to OS4. As I write this, files are being restored. To save time though, I had to delete 25 gigs of music and movies on it. I can easily just reload those anyway. It'll just take a lot of time for the ipod to back them up and restore when I can just choose what I want the next time again.

I'm glad when clients call in and tell me that there's a "new" project. Always looking forward to those coz I'm sure it's gonna be an additional blessing to my savings :) Work later yeah!

Will be finalizing the mastering of the album this week then it's render, burn and email time. Time to prepare for the final leg of the album! WOOHOOOO!!! It's finally coming!

All Aboard... The Night TRAIN!

Been waiting for weeks for this.

Being a fan of Train, I was looking forward to seeing them live. My main goal was to have all my CDs signed especially the older ones. I got up today excited. I woke up and prepared my CDs... unfortunately, I couldn't find all of it so I just brought one (boo) but it was still something. I just wanted them to know how big of a fan I am and be glad to have huge fans over here. Anyway, I rushed off to work and tried to finish as early as I could and left. Picked up Berns and headed to Town Center for the concert.

I was told that there was special privileges for Ayala Card holders and I was confident that since I had a card, I won't have any problem... I didn't know that they still had rules for A cardholders! I had to have 1000 worth of any purchase from the mall that day. I was so frustrated. Not because I had to spend (I would've paid thousands had it been a paid concert just to see them live). It was because I arrived just in time for the concert to start and I didn't have time to go around and find something worth 1000, that I liked. I was bombed. I had to stand at the back and enjoy the show from there.

Now, as if my experience wasn't to turn sour, after the concert, ONLY those within the Ayala and VIP seats were allowed for the meet and greet and the album signing... now I was feeling totally rotten. I went there as fan and I really felt they should let me in... "I even brought an old CD!" hehe

BUT

God's favor truly shines even in the little things that matter to me... the person we asked earlier where to line up for signing (same person who explained how the Ayala priority worked) suddenly told her colleague to give us VIP passes JUST LIKE THAT!!! Praise God! God's favor (plus the fact that I looked like I was about to cry from frustration) made a way!

So, I entered the gates and lined up for meet and greet. Yahoo!!!

BUT

I wasn't allowed for album signing coz only 50 people were given that privilege. WOW NAMAN!

I had a goal and I was out to get it. I talked to some people who fell in line and asked them if they could have my CD signed. Some people rejected me and the lady at the back of the line was sweet enough to do so. She was really nice! She even looked at us as she went on stage for the signing smiling like saying "this is it!" It was really a nice gesture. Gladly, they also signed my CD woohooooo!

So picture, check! Album signing, check! But I still had the latest album in hand with no signature coz that was for the lady who was in line...

GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT.

I waited till the very very very end and with only a few people left at ATC, they went down and had pictures taken with the fans who stayed and I GOT MY SIGNATURES! WOOHOOOOO!!!

It was a big thing for me because I really am a fan of their music and songwriting. And to be able to watch one of the bands who are in my favorites list was really a BIG blessing to me.

FRIDAY WAS AWESOME!!!!

ps... did I mention I recorded the whole concert in Video? hahaha :)

Studio Updates

Well, with all the cement, dust and steel lying around, there really isn't much to say but the little changes...

To avoid future problems with the neighbors (not like they'll say anything), we had to create new posts to rest the beams on instead on the shared firewall, which we both use. I wanted a new wall to be constructed but it seems like it'll cost a whole lot more so the new posts will suffice... and since the new posts were placed today, I was able to see the corners of the recording area already. It's not much but I got excited. It's enough to fit a large drum kit so I'm happy. I'm hoping we could do our band rehearsals in that room from now on... drums, amps and all. Yeah!

Been going over the drawn up plans as well and it really makes me excited even if it's just a bunch of lines. Knowing that the contractors I got for the structure (care of bernice) are REALLY goooood, I'm confident in the result of the studio. They usually do millionaire houses so I was telling them this one's a breather for them coz it's such a small scale project hahaha

Anyway, that's it for now. Looking forward to the 1st month update!!! hehe I was told it'll take them 2 months so let's see. Time to save up for aircon haha

Regrets. Remorse. Reasoning.

Regret. I wasted a whole day... or maybe was productive for 1/4th of it. The rest was just wasted surfing and reading and reading on stuff. Researching, and looking into options as to not spend or waste money on stuff I don't need. Maybe it can help me, maybe not. I just feel I wasted the day.

Remorse. Part of it is feeling sellers remorse for selling a lot of my synths namely my Korg Prophecy, Roland JD800, and Korg MS2000. for some strange reason I felt so bad letting them go. I wish I had all my gear here with me. But then again, I had to make the conscious decision to sell those that I don't use at all. Having been mostly software-based, I have my synths gathering dust. As much as I'd love seeing them in the studio, I need to declutter my life... and unfortunately, there are days like these that hit me bad and remorse sets in.

Now I want to get a hardware synth that I like. But no money for getting one makes the feeling harder.

Reasoning. Add to the fact that I'm confused at my live setup at the moment. a part of me tells me to embrace the software route I recently took. My old self tells me to look into my all hardware setup and build up on it. Really confused...

Drummin for Bembol Rockers... rockabilly baby!

Some may not know that before I became an electronic artist, I was primarily a drummer. After a gig with my band one Saturday, I was asked to fill in for Bembol Rockers while waiting for their drummer. What was supposed to be 3 songs ended up more than a dozen and I played the whole set with a broken drum stick and a smile on my face :) Loved that night!
