Long Nights

I was asked to be one of the hosts for one of the "funny" segments in our Life conference in church. I definitely had a blast and it was nice putting my "humor" to good use especially in church hehe So, last night was our last night of hosting and those 3 nights were definitely fun fun fun...

I wasn't able to finish the last session though coz I had to rush to our 9pm call time at a fund raiser. I mentioned in my twitter earlier that I really like doing fund raisers or gigs for any cause because it makes the talent given to us more purposeful in that respect. However, our 9pm call time had us playing at 1:30... please. don't ask why... I had time to drive bernice home all the way to Bicutan from the venue and back to the venue... and I still waited a long time before we played. I don't mind waiting but I just felt that had I known it would've turned out that way, I should've just stayed for the last session of the Life conference in church. Hassle talaga... But then again, while driving, I was asking God what was my purpose in having to leave early and going to the venue. Why were we there to play? And I think the simple answer came when I was on stage talking to the audience reminding them that it's not just a fund raiser where money is involved but I also asked them to pray for the boy for a successful operation. It may be a simple task but I believe God sent me to remind those people.

It was also a nice experience to hear the dad of the boy thank the bands and everyone who came and how grateful he was. You could really see it in his eyes and hear in his voice how thankful he was that people went to be a blessing to his kid. I really felt all warm inside. It's really nice to help out with the talent given to you.

After the gig, went straight home (with a stopover i chowking) to go straight work and that is the reason my browser is open right now and I'm typing hehe

Make Your Free Flickr Work for Your Site or Blog

Everybody knows Flickr... well I hope so. If not, head on over to www.flickr.com and see for yourself.

I won't take the time to explain what flickr is but to be brief, it's a photo upload site.

Now I signed up a few years back and I later hoped to utilize my account to create slideshows for my website since I didn't know how to code slideshows in the first place.

I came across a few limiting problems. At first, I didn't know free accounts only allowed 3 photo sets. I immediately used up all my photo sets coz I thought I could make one set per live show or whatever. I was mistaken. So here's my solution and I hope this can help you in your DIY indie music site.

I now created just one set for all my live photos named "Live Gigs" Now what will separate them now from each other is via the tags instead of my initial plan of separating by photo sets. Now if I have a show in say, Club X then I can just tag it with "clubxapril272010" and all photos tagged with it can now be grouped as one. Now it gets interesting...

Once you have your photo set and tagging done, head on over to www.flickrslideshow.com and simply fill in the necessary fields and you have your own customized slideshow without the need for any coding or whatever. After that, you can just copy the code the site generates into your blog, your site, or wherever you want and you now have your own slideshow!

Note: You can then create various slideshows according to your tags. So let's say I play in club X on Friday and club Y on Saturday, I can just change the tags and have 2 different codes for it create 2 different slideshows per night!

Hope that helped you out!

How Wasted Can One Get?

I Feel So Free...

I know the title sounds like those tag lines for those barely there panty liners but that's how I feel hehe

Yesterday, I finally finished all 32 remixes for a client, which I needed to finish in less than 3 weeks. Yes, you read that correctly. It was the pressure of pressures! But God's grace sustained me and his inspiration made me meet my deadlines. I'm so happy. SO happy!

It's such a relief to finally finish all of them and my mind is free already to think of all the other pending projects... Yes there are still a lot but I'm just glad that I can at least let my mind "breathe" even just for a few days.

My next project starts next week and that's 26 tracks in also less than 3 weeks. Oh joy... :)

I'm not complaining though. These are God's big time blessings in my life and I welcome them with open arms!

On top of those, we'll be finishing the album of Lovecore and one for my silverfilter project. May is indeed a crazy but fruitful month! Looking forward to it with all positivity!

But I can't wait for June when this is all done and over with. I'll definitely take a short vacation. Been asking and looking around already. I just want one that I can drive to get there so I can bring my car so that's within Luzon or just around Manila. a 4-hour drive is ok with me. Suggestions welcome.

:)

I Love Speaking Into People's Lives Sharing The Talent God Blessed Me With

I recently did a talk for a music camp. I talked about how to produce an album successfully. It was quite an experience. I enjoyed the whole thing and it was humbling to be asked to be one of the speakers.

The camp was Redeem The Airwaves. It’s an annual camp that i’ve always wanted to attend but never got to and this yr instead of attending, i spoke. It’s funny how God works :)

It was held in Antipolo so i had a long drive that day cuz i just went there for the talk and headed back right after. I realized also that Antipolo ain’t that far after all Haha

I found it a perfect time to use the mic i bought for my ipod so i was able to record the whole thing, which i’m really excited to share with everyone. I just need time to upload it next week once i revisit my podcast cuz i definitely need to do some major updates on those.

beatbox Battle Fun

Did my 2nd event for Boni High St last Sat. It was fun. Did a show with Beatbox Phils at the open grounds in front of Bo’s coffee.

We started out with a drum battle where it was me on drums against the beatboxers. I really had fun there cuz i miss drumming very much.

After the battle, i went to my live setup and played my movie and tv tunes remixes. They jammed on top of it and i had spaces between the arrangements where they could just jam on their own.

We closed the night with all of us jammin together. Me on drums and them on their mics. Great fun…

We did two sets and both had their highlights. Really fun.

I love the performance because aside from it being the first time for me to do something like it, i missed drummin and i also loved bein able to play and do a drum and bass set.

It was a blast. Will upload photos and videos soon! :)

Accomplishment's Sweet Taste Short-Lived

Well, last night, I was able to finalize and polish all the 10 tunes for the event on Saturday at BHS. I then rendered everything, converted them to MP3s, loaded them to Ableton Live, and prepared the clips like warps, markers, and my ableton to APC40 setup. I gave a sigh of relief after that was done. 2nd batch of songs done. But then I have to submit 10 more tunes by Saturday or maybe Monday the latest. No time to rejoice yet.

I just took my time and had a breather by designing some new shirts, which hopefully will see the light of day by the people making my shirts. i don't earn from it that much... I just design them, which I like doin. Did a little research as well on new designs, tried to find inspiration on the net for nice shirts and did some research on how to put up a small shirt business. I actually don't like to do the whole buy a machine thing. I just want to design and pay some company to print them including the shirts and get them to sell. That's the extent of involvement I want in doing my "shirt thing." I was telling my friend that I hardly have time to explore all the music I want and that's why I dont want anything getting in the way much by sticking my nose into the whole production and manufacturing of shirts and all. But I love shirts, ever since I could remember, I have been collecting them. I also had this idea of taking photos of all of my shirts just for the sake of it and having a collection. At least I know what I had and have and can look back at the shirts one day. I might just do that :)

Around 4 am, I loaded a DJ mix of London Electricity and jammed along to drum and bass for an hour on my drums. It was great exercise and I needed to loosen up my arms, wrists and fingers on drumming since I'll be drumming on Saturday for the event as well for the battle with the beatboxers so better check it out!

I guess I'll take a shower now before hitting the sack.

God bless.

Still at Work...

So today was interesting...

Went and paid my monthly for my new guitar, which I can't wait to finally get. Then our jam was cancelled coz our drummer couldn't make it.

Now work...

Was able to finish some interesting remixes for the event this saturday...

a Drum and bass version of the Transformers theme... a minimal house version of Axel F, and and a trippy house version of the theme from John en Marsha... how weird and wild can the set on Saturday be? We'll see.

I'll polish and finalize everything tom and start working on the Broadway remixes for next week's show...

Saturday's Gig At Boni High Street w The String Quartet

It's just now that I was able to have time to write about what happened last saturday. This'll be not as detailed.

The show was great! I really liked it. Like I mentioned a few days back, the strings breathed a whole other life into the remixes, which was quite refreshing. It actually went beyond my expectations. At least that's a good thing.

As usual, there were little errors that I have to mention because of the perfectionist in me...
- with a little misunderstanding, I was told NOT to have dead air. After our first song, I waited till the applause died and then I proceeded to the next song... not knowing that my string section was still flipping their score sheets onto the next song. They literally missed a whole stanza coz they weren't able to count on time with my beginning. I really felt bad. I didn't want to stop it coz half of them played along already and we were already rolling. I made adjustments after that first applause... hehe

- I hated my ending. I usually end with a big one but I guess I'm just beating myself up too much but I really hated my ending. It wasn't big, it wasn't grand... it was weird. I don't know why I took that direction. Since I was using ableton, it was impossible for my kicks to sound out of sync coz I was locked in and I actually did the reverse and used my effects to sound like I was drifting hahaha It was indeed weird. Totally regret experimenting on the spot. But I guess that's partly what playing Live is all about.

Overall, it was a great night. I had fun... and there are 2 more Saturdays to come. I shall definitely NOT repeat those and make it a point to end big.

Phew!

April 17... see you at 8pm and 9pm at Boni High Street!!

Hi guys and gals! Just came from my rehearsals and I must say that the remixes took on another life once the string quartet played over the remixes! Panalo! I was dancing in excitement for the gig later. To further whet your appetite, I'll be doing the remixes of songs from the following artists... oh yeah I won't put the titles of the songs para pumunta kayo hehehe Carpenters Beatles Nat King Cole Michael Jackson Bob Marley The Doors Rico J Puno (yebah) AND MORE!!! It's gonna be a trip! House music and some remixed into directions you'd never expect hehe See ya! Cy - silverfilter

Busy busy

it’s been a few days since i wrote a decent update. Been really busy. Busiest i’ve ever been and this’ll stretch till the 1st week of May. I can’t wait to finish all of these. I’m not complaining though. It’s God’s big blessing to me to have projects. The pressure is on but i’m having fun doing it. I get to make music as work… Ain’t it grand ?!

In other news, i really feel like i need to get back playin live more often and not just for events. It’s not like i only go for events, i just have a hard time lookin for venues willing to take my live dance music format cuz i can’t do requests like djs do. We shall see…

Looking Good...

There are so many things I'd like to talk about but I'd like to focus on the success of the giveaway. I may be easy to please since I feel that 11 people joining my mailing list in day 1 is a success.

Yes, I received 11 sign ups today to the silverfilter mailing list. Even if it's just a few, it's 11 more people willing to join me in this music journey and I'm glad and humbled about it.

I always saw my albums as calling cards rather than profit machines and giving them away for a week, I believe, will have its benefits and I think day 1 has proved itself strong.

I'm looking forward to day 2 :)

Friends! My personal work site is up @ www.cyrilsorongon.com Help me spread the word f u need music or knw ppl who do. Avp, score, jingle, minus1, etc. Tnx! #fb

JOKE of the day. Er.. Night.

A guy was driving his car at the speed of 80 mph when he saw the
flashing red and blue lights. Thinking that the cop might not be able
to catch him, he accelerated to 110 mph. He finally came to some sense
and pulled over to the side. The cop stepped out, took his license and
examined it without a word. He looked at the driver and said, "I've
had a tough shift and this is my last pullover. I don't feel like
doing anymore paperwork so if you can give me an excuse for your
driving that I haven't heard before, you can go! "The driver blinked
only once while his brain scramble for a reply. "Last week my wife ran
off with a cop, " he said, " and I was afraid you were trying to give
her back! "
"Off you go," said the officer.

Sharing Music and Giving Back

I started a promo thing today giving away 2 of my albums for sale to be made available as a free download within 7 days. If you don’t know about this, kindly backread a bit a day before and find out what i’m talking about. I’m running this promo thru Twitter, Facebook, my mailing list and here on my blog as well.

I just felt it can be something fresh to catch new listeners and to give back to the community who continuously supports me. Imagine, giving out 3 albums for free? I guess that’s something… Or i’m hoping for it to be.

I just haven’t gotten the response i was expecting seeing that i’m giving away potential income of mine and a few albums to boot. But i guess that’s how it is. The few who did respond, i do hope they enjoy the free albums coming their way :)

I’ll be blasting this promo throughout the week so let’s see :)

God bless!

The Goodness of our God

I'm VERY busy these days. Beyond busy. And It's all for a series of shows I'll be doing in Boni High Street  starting next Saturday. but what does the title of the entry have to do with it, right? Aside from the simple "He gave me a gig" blessing, that whole event IS the blessing because it will pay for my studio renovation.

This year began and will finish as a year of spending especially with all the wedding preparations starting with the proposal. But God made sure that this year, is also a year of GREAT HARVEST...

I was believing for that "extra" that I don't have to worry about building my studio and have everything separate from the money being set aside for the wedding. I wanted to build my studio before the wedding so that I'm also prepared when the time comes. Having and running a proper studio has always been a dream of mine and it will surely help in my finances once it's up and running. However, with all the payables, reservations, I hardly had enough even to survive. This is where God came in with His answer. He sent this event my way and molded EVERYTHING in such a way that once the event is done, He has sent me the exact amount I was believing for to put up the studio. Isn't He great?!

Now, I'm just working hard to finish everything and I'm just looking at the end goal and even declaring, "I'm building the studio next month!" That's what I also tell people ;)

I'm glad to revisit my studio design since it's been shelved for more than a year already. God always has perfect timing. I'm still trying to understand why at this time and not years back, but I'm sure it will be revealed to me soon enough :)

I'll Be Seeing You John Mayer!

Just paid and reserved our seats for the upcogin John Mayer concert at the Channel V office yesterday.

I was on my way leaving Alabang when my friend Adah texted me telling me she was at the office and that they "ran out" of tickets. I honestly don't know and didn't bother to ask how that could happen but it did. I decided to still head there and at least pay and finally reserve our seats. I'm glad I did.

Rows A-G (front) are all reserved for the sponsors (lucky) and H onwards start for the public Platinum. When I got there, it was obvious there were a lot of early birds that it was already up in row K (VERY few) and L onwards. I took L even if it was behind K since the K seats available were right next to the gold area already. Not worth it. So Row L. Not bad... not bad at all. It's just 12 rows back and that's NEAR! So I'm pretty happy with the seats I got and it's in the middle right smack in front of John probably or maybe in line in the direction off center but in front of his guitar effects? hehe

I honestly wish I could get my John Mayer strat signed by the man himself but I don't know how that could happen. I just feel being one of the very few owners of the guitar in the country, maybe they'd make an exception to at least get our guitars signed. oh well... I just thank God he's doing a show in the Philippines and I'm gonna get to see it!

Easter Sunday... there's always time.

I'd just like to remind everyone that it isn't late at all even if Easter has finished in our part of the globe.

If you have been searching, looking for answers, always wondered about where you will end up, your purpose and destiny, if heaven is your destination, then Jesus is your simple answer. All you need to do is invite Him into your life and all of the answers will slowly reveal itself.

Jesus said:

Matthew 11:28-30 (New International Version)

28"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

All you need is to call upon His name and all the guilt, shame, and condemnation will fade from your thoughts and shall be replaced by the love God has for YOU. He sent His son to die in your place because He loves you.

Just pray this prayer and mean it with all your heart. You will experience a great miracle happen in your life and the scales of confusion that has always blurred your vision about life and what it should be will fall off and the truth of Salvation and Heaven on Earth shall be yours.

Heavenly Father:..........................................................................
I come to you in prayer asking for the forgiveness of
my Sins.  I confess with my mouth and believe with my
heart that Jesus is your Son, And that he died on the
Cross at Calvary that I might be forgiven and have
Eternal Life in the Kingdom of Heaven.  Father, I believe
that Jesus rose from the dead and I ask you right now
to come in to my life and be my personal Lord and
Savior. I repent of my Sins and will Worship you all the
day's of my Life!. Because your word is truth, I confess
with my mouth that I am Born Again and Cleansed
by the Blood of Jesus!   In Jesus Name, Amen.

If you prayed the prayer, Praise God! Angels in heaven are rejoicing right now as another child has turned their sights to heaven once again. The old you is gone now and everything is brand new. Live the life God really prepared for you and you will see the goodness of God transform everything that has bothered you in the past.

God bless!

Cy

ps. If you prayed the prayer, please do let me know. You can email me privately or send me a msg in any of my networking sites.

Some new stuff in the world of Music Technology :)

Hey guys!

Well, as I mentioned in a previous entry, I figured, I'd beef up my blog and post more interesting stuff than my plain life haha anyway, here goes...

World's smallest DI box - I want one of these. It's a bit pricey though but it definitely has been included in my Wants list, which I'll get to some day :)

Buttons upon buttons - The current bid for this beast is already at $2800! I personally am not in the market for one of these but it has a loyal user base and that might be you! It's a Monome!

For the funnier side of things...

New Moog Offering - I've always wanted a Moog... period. It's products like these that prove that Moog is always ahead of the game.

Forward Thinking Plug Ins - Recording has always been a craft never mastered fully by anyone because there's always the issue of the performance of your singer or performer. This plug in aims to fix that!

Enjoy!

Cy

Some interesting stuff... KFC... Google...

I figured add to add more to this blog than just basic daily updates, I'll make it more alive (hopefully) by sharing random things like most people anyway. So here goes...

Unfortunately, this will not be available here in the Philippines but I'm TEMPTED to try one of these if it ever hit our shores. Possibly eat one over lunch then jog for a few KMs in the afternoon... would you try one?

Here's why - KFC

For you Google heads who just love the search engine and everything they do to take over our virtual life, Google has another one up its sleeve after the success of Wave and Buzz. They're offering a new FREE wireless service! This is something we can sink our teeth into... Free eh!

Check this out - Google

Enjoy!
