God and Sound

T3234

A friend of mine shared this link and it's just amazing how God created the Earth and the creatures in it.

I love learning new things and so I end up watching Discovery Channel and NatGeo most of the time and once you read this article, it'll make you realize how God made things interesting and just plain awesome because He is!

http://www.npr.org/blogs/krulwich/2011/04/26/135694052/natures-living-tape-re...

It's also interesting to note that it's kind of sad if these birds mimic industrial sounds knowing that some of them have been driven away from their habitat by the very same tools they're sounding off.

Famous Dutch DJ Picks up a silverfilter remix!

I just got an update from one of the labels in the US I have a release with. You know, it's interesting experiencing all of these for the first time and it's fun. So I got an email with updates/reports on stuff like reviews, etc and it was nice to know and read about some great reviews on a remix I did for one of their artists from DJs, radio shows, blogs, etc all over the world. Suddenly realized the value of promo and feedback :)

So I went on to trusty google to just google to see how far the remix had gone so far and I was surprised that it was included in the podcast of Funkerman!

Funkerman's been around and I read about it him in the magazines that I read, have chart toppers and a release under Defected, and he works closely with Fedde Le Grand running their own label.

It was awesome for me to find myself included in it since I'm pretty sure those DJs pick up tons of promos from around the world and to be included in his mix is just amazing!

It's exciting and it's really nice how 2011's unfolding and how God slowly reveals His plans.

Get the mix for FREE here:

My Review of Electronica Manila : Two

Em_logo

Of course to help further promote the release, I'd like to write a short review on the tracks and the album as a whole and being one of the guys involved in compiling this, I hope I can also share a bit on the details about this.

Let's start of with the tracks.

Deviation by Demolee : I'm actually a huge fan of Demolee with his chillout releases and "Deviation" is a perfect title because he really steered clear of his usual stuff bringing in a breaks type of tune with filter modulated sounds and a nice angelic female vox driving it. Well done. I do hope Demolee gets back to making great tunes as he's now on hiatus.

On The Move by Evo Evolver : On first listen I was surprised because the track had a feel of jumping styles and it was a total trip. There of course was a unified sound to it but the house feel jumping to a little more dubstep with a tinge of a sidechained/LFO pad on top of it then jumpin right back into

some harder synths was really an experience.

Invisible Money by Milkriddles : This is something a bit more tamed from the Milkriddles tunes I usually get into but it was nice as well.

Qwerty by Plant a Tree : I LOVE the delayed sound used on this tune and how it just takes you on a trip.

Speed of Light by Kereta : One of the actual electronic songs on the album. The tune actually has a nice catchy melody to it and I loved that contemporary chiptune sound styling it.

Una by Hyneria Moss Soundscape : If you're into the more experimental/ambient style, you'd like this. Its soundscape floats around and I'm reminded actually of a waaay slowed down audio file.

Well Well Well by Pupiliris : A nice progressive house tune from the guy also known as singleeyeperspective. Do check out his latest release on bandcamp. It's awesome :)

The Client by silverfilter : Of course I won't review my track. I'll instead talk about it to share how it came about. To people who follow electronic music and the trends that go with it, this tune of mine may sound dated. To be honest, it is. This was actually a tune I believe I wrote 6 years back! Its working title was "Breakin" and was supposed to be an instrumental track. But after doing a few shows with Diego, we got to talking to collaborating on a tune. The structure of Breakin seemed perfect for a song and so I sent it to him. He later sent me back the vocals and since he sang about a "Client" I renamed the song to "The Client." I put in the vocals and did major edits to it for effects and stuff and this is what came out of it. It's a pretty trippy track actually :) I had fun with it.

Cheese Pursuit by Mighty Dax : This track is pure Mighty Dax. Mixing his dance sound with a bit of breaks, and some rock flavours, Cheese Pursuit does go around like a ball of styles that MD covers all in one tune. I loved the sliding portamento bass on it.

Dubreax by Alpha and Beta : This tune seems like a rock song as it makes you do some head banging when the main bass comes in. It also surprises us with a huge drop in the middle turning this breakbeat chaos into a dubstep tune and then back into a massive synth-laden breaks track. My favorite part is the wah wah type synth toward the end.

Skinny Model Remix by Emorej : Emorej churns out tracks as much as gas prices increase! Here's one classic house tune from the man with his signature robo singing. The thing that sets it apart aside from his usual robo singing is that 90s house feel to it which really takes you back.

Rapid Induction by Blusmoke : It's really interesting since Blusmoke is the only guys using Trackers (I hope i got it right) to make his tunes and not the usual music hardware or software that a lot of us use. By that, he sets himself apart with a sound uniquely his own. This track has that lo fi grit sound and breakbeat feel to it.

Frozen in Time by Spintech : My favorite is the intro loop. I just got hooked into it. I was expecting a minimal house tune and then when the synth came in I was surprised by a deep house tune complete with delayed piano. I put this last in the sequence because it sounded like a perfect ending to a journey. This way you leave relaxed with the piano wash at the end of the tune.

I hope you and the artists enjoyed this short review of mine. If you haven't downloaded the album, get it here

Electronica Manila : Two is Finally Out!

1_-_em2_cover

Following the release of the free Electronica Manila : One compilation comes volume two in the series of free digital compilations brought to you by the artists of Electronica Manila. This series aims to promote awareness to the public about the presence of electronic artists found in the Philippines. The drive is to ultimately push the Filipino electronic sound forward along with the artists involved. This is a project done by Electronica Manila as a group with full support from every artist involved as they offer their tracks to be given away for free for this cause alone.

It is interesting when we hear people say, "we didn't know we had artists like these locally!" Whenever we do get those, we feel that we have achieved the goal of the compilation and this is what keeps us writing more music.

There is more to come in the coming months and years. This is only a start and we do hope you continue to support your local electronic artists!

We have included the whole set of tracks in a zipped file along with the cover art and details. We suggest that you visit the sites of these artists to hear more of what they can offer with their music. We are sure you won't be disappointed :)

Get it here:

While waiting for your download to finish, please feel free to visit us on Facebook and join Electronica Manila. We are not solely a bunch of artists but we are a collective of artists, enthusiasts, DJs, and supporters and just about anyone who is into pushing the appreciation of locally made electronic music. We're a fun bunch so we'd like to hang out with you online and offline during our general assemblies :)

Unfollow Dead Twitter Accounts

Untweeps
Let's face it. There are serious people into social networking, and there are those who just join because they were told to or because it's a fad. It's really sad for those who join for the latter reason. But it's a reality and you may have followed some people who simply gave up with the whole twitter thing and it just clutters your following list on your account.

In comes untweeps.com. This site presents you a list of people you follow who have abandoned their twitter accounts and gives you the option to unfollow them. You have the choice to fill in how may days YOU consider a twitter account may be considered abandoned or dead. It's really up to you. You can also keep a list of people you still want to follow. Everything's up to you. You decide who to unfollow. All the site does is help you sort it out.

Why would you want to do this? Well, some people might say they'd just keep them in the list for the sake of it or possibly because they're just too lazy to go through them one by one. The benefit however of cleaning your twitter following list is that people who follow so many "may" be considered spammers and we don't want that. It's a long shot to be considered one but some articles written about Twitter hint at how people with so many people followed are sometimes considered spammers.

So there. Just another thing to help you sort out your twitter account :)

Enjoy!

Twitter and People No Longer Interested

Doesfollow

I remember a few years back, some famous DJ followed me back after I followed him. At that time, I was ecstatic! He was even tweeting back initially but then as some twitter communications go, it stopped. Fast forward to today, I wonder if some people who decided to follow me still do because if you read some Twitter "rules" some people will say that you should automatically follow back anyone who does. But I'm guessing some just do it then unfollow after some time. And so this lead me to find out who still has me on their twitterfeeds. In comes http://www.doesfollow.com and their service. All it is is it has 2 boxes and you just need to fill in the usernames for you to find out if someone is still following either you or someone else. This helps save time than actually making you go through the whole list of followers you have looking for someone. This one only takes a click after typing in the usernames.

If you're the chismosa/o type or you just like to get in on things, you can also just put other usernames like if you wanna find out if an actor follows a particular actress or a singer follows so and so... you get the picture I'm sure.

Twitter is about building an online relationship and if someone does unfollow you, I'm guessing that he/she may not be no longer interested in you and since it ends up with you just following them, it seems like a one way street and may just be adding to the clutter of users you need to go through daily. For me, that's where this site proves useful. It's better to keep a good list of people you follow who are also genuine in their desire to build a relationship with you. But of course if you're following a famous pop star, then that's a different topic altogether.

Give it a try and get your twitter cleansed :)

Korg Micropiano

Index

Korg has had huge success with their micro series from the virtual analog Microkorg, then the microkontrol, Microsampler, and now, the Micropiano.

It's a 61 key digital piano with 61 sounds. It's battery powered and has a headphone out which also serves as its main out. It also has built in speakers making this a very mobile instrument to bring anywhere for just jamming out especially if you're a piano player. They say the keyboard has a different feel to it. I'm just hoping it's unlike the early microkorgs because the keys were so short, it really felt like a toy with the keyboard feel.

Korg is a Japanese company but made in China and the thing about their recent products is that it doesn't feel like a solid product. Add that to the micro look, people have looked at a number of recent Korg products to be toys. It's pretty negative if you go over forums but we can't avoid it. They still have really nice and top products that still makes an impact to dance music today. But to some extent I agree to some opinions of it since I own a Korg R3. It doesn't feel as solid as say my old Korg MS2000 or Prophecy. Don't discount this new keyboard though here's why.

As much as people may say that they're toys, the feature set is great and personally, I can recommend this to parents who would want their kids to get into playing the piano. It looks really nice and with the soundset, I'm sure there are a lot to be had with this.

New Guitar Album :)

The design my wife made to the studio got featured in a design blog and since we were pressed for time, we had to do the photos ourselves than have them bring in a photographer. We're no pros at all and so we just made do with my point and shoot and had a go. Since we were already shooting, Bernice wanted the photos to include my guitars and this is the reason why we have another new album. We were shooting anyway so I asked her that I'd just add some more shots :)

Pictured here are my Fender John Mayer Strat, My Fender 40th Anniv Strat Plus, My American Vintage 62 Telecaster, and my Gibson Les Paul Premium Plus :)

Enjoy!
