A Dependence On Computers

From a stat update I made and some exchange of replies, the idea to write about the computers I've had over the years came to mind and here it is... I feel like this would be interesting.

The first ever computer I've used extensively is the Pentium 1 or 2 desktop my dad had in his office. I wasn't much into computer music then but I was into technology already. That's where I learned Fruity Loops and making electronic music. That simple computer helped in that spark, which led me to who I am today as an electronic musician. Who would've known that a simple desktop computer could help shape my destiny, right?

I got my first ever laptop I think right before I graduated college. I asked for a laptop as a grad gift because I was so fascinated by electronic music that I wanted to get deeper into it. Plus the fact that back then, I was planning on being a web designer. I even took the course. But long story short, I never pursued it. I still have the books to prove it though haha Going back, my first ever laptop was an Asus Pentium 3 laptop with I think had 256 MB of RAM. I LOVED that laptop and have made beautiful music with it. I made my first EP on it and it was a helpful piece of equipment during that phase of my life learning Electronic music. It was also back then when I made the transition from Fruity Loops to Reason because I got tired of the bugs in FL. That ASUS notebook was a workhorse and not until its CD drive gave in, that I decided to sell it. But looking back, that's the most expensive laptop I've owned EVER, since we all know how much they were back then... I believe it had 10 gigs which I later upgraded to 40. wow haha

The 2nd laptop, which I got right before I sold my ASUS, was a Compaq Presario 2500. It's a Pentium4 machine with 2.6Ghz which I think I upgraded to a gig RAM and has 80 gigs HD. I still use it up to now. It's actually what I'm using as I type this. It's been demoted to my surfing and desktop applications laptop but it's still a steady worker. The 2 major problems I had with this were the keyboard replacement, which I had replaced by HP themselves, and when my HD crashed. That's where I upgraded the HD. I lost a lot of music during the crash. It was a hard lesson but needed. Since the repair and upgrade, t's been running smoothly...

The 3rd laptop is an HP Pavillion DV2000 which I got a HUGE discount upon getting it. Unfortunately, it had media Center as its OS and it took me months to almost a year before I got to use it properly cuz I had to downgrade it to XP pro and the SATA discs on it didn't agree with the OS change so I had to sort it out for so long. Really bad. Eventually, it worked and it's been my workhorse since I think 2007? I upgraded the RAM to 1.5gig and the HD is I think 120. It's a core2duo machine 1.8. It's feature packed because back then it ws the top of the line and I wanted to get the best I could find coz it should last me years. I'm not the type of person who always upgrades. If it works for me, I still stick with it. Another reason why I'm STILL using my old pentium 4 PC. The HP's fan bogged down so I need to have it fixed asap because we're finishing the Lovecore album on it. I also did a LOT of tracks and ads on that machine. I finished and created Devotion using my HP laptop. It has served me well and I still plan to keep it.

with the fan down and the HP rendered unuseable, I unfortunately, HAD to look for a replacement. Long story short, God blessed me with a new Macbook Pro.

My current one is a 15" MBP 2.53 with 4gig ram. It's the entry level for the 15" MBP's and I settled for it because of two things... I didn't have the money for the 17 and I could manage with the specs since I was a happy camper with a 1.83 so what more with the 2.5 right? We shall be doing some parts of the Lovecore album on it and hopefully more when I do get Logic 9 and I'll be mixing my new album on the new machine already.

God's blessed mw with so much though I find myself dependent on computers for work, which I'm sure how a lot of big companies are. I just find it interesting how I can feel inadequate without it especially for work.
