It's a Virtual Analog synth - powered with the same engine that drives the Korg Radias.
It's a vocoder - robotize your voice and make Daft Punk tunes and more. For more tweaking, you can also vocode any input you choose from a drum loop to another synth! The unit comes with its own microphone :)
It's a midi controller - I fired up Reason and connected this via USB and I instantly had a 37 key midi keyboard controller
It's its own Kaoss effects box - if you don't need the live playability of the Kaoss pad, enjoy Kaoss fx with the R3 and us the audio inputs to apply effects to external synths and whatever you may want to run into it. Of course, these same Kaoss effects are readily available to be used to build your synth patches in the R3
