The Making of Devotion - part one

The Idea hit me early last year when plans on renovating New Life, my church, was announced. I am where I am because of what God has done in my life and I wanted a way to give back through my music and what better way than to make a fund raising album to build His house.

I brought it up initially to some people in church but when nobody picked up on it, I had to set the project aside to focus on work. Fast forward a few months... when I finally got the go signal, I took on the project and worked on twelve songs... I ended up using eleven on the album.

As mentioned before in previous posts, Devotion is something I call a soundtrack to prayer. It's an 11-track CD where the songs are more likely to be played in the background. I wrote the tunes with this in mind exactly to create music that doesn't jump out at you while your praying or reading the bible. It's music meant for "devotion" so to speak.

I initially thought of simply creating ambient music but when it came down to praying, prayer is about being brought to places by the Spirit and I didn't want the music to be limited by something VERY light. The album is light as it is. For lack of a genre, I simply call it between ambient and chillout. But some of the tunes have that victorious feel or some of them simply bring a smile to our faces.

More about Devotion in the coming blogs... I'm going over the master disc while typing this. I'll be delivering it later for replication and it's simply a waiting game after that before album release. I'm really excited!

God bless and thanks for the support!
